my voice is my passport

Based on a conversation I had with Will about people who look exactly like their voice, here’s an assessment of some NPR personalities:

People who look like they sound:

Clockwise from top left: Bob Boilen, Carl Kasell, Ira Flatow, Kai Ryssdal, Terry Gross, Michele Norris, Liane Hansen, Ken Rudin

In retrospect, Terry Gross should be in her own category (“Could not possibly look like anything else”)

People who don’t look like they sound:

From left to right:

Tom and Ray Magliozzi - Not so much Tom, but Ray.  Who knew Wolfman Jack was still alive and dispensing car maintenance advice?

Steve Inskeep - I was expecting dark hair.

Robert Siegel - This one is disappointing.  I always imagined that Siegel looked a little like Bob Schieffer or Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins.  I don’t know that I can take him seriously now that I know he looks like a white Salman Rushdie.

WNYC’s Soterios Johnson: I thought he was black.  Turns out he’s Greek.  Common mistake, I’m sure.  Just ask Sofoklis Schortsanitis. Bonus joke that I’ve been sitting on for six months because I don’t have occasion to use it: WHY SOTERIOS?

Eh:

From left to right: Melissa Block, Renee Montagne, Peter Sagal
